Concentrated fruit with marked power
Long 12 in the 2021 vintage presents itself as a confident, deeply coloured Cabernet with a clear sense of direction. The style leans into richness and intensity, shaped by a warm, high‑altitude region that gives the wine both weight and definition. This is a wine built on dark fruit, firm structure and a polished sense of ambition — unmistakably crafted to show how far Ningxia has come on the international scene.
Dark fruit in layered intensity
The aroma is dark and dense, like dipping your nose into a bowl of blackcurrants and plums. A touch of black cherry appears quickly, followed by a hint of dried fruit, and behind it all lie warm notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and cedar that add a clearly spiced edge. The palate follows the same path: full‑bodied, dark and firmly spiced, with blackcurrant and blackberry forming the backbone. The oak wraps itself around the fruit like a warm layer, and a gentle sweetness in the finish creates a rounded, generous mouthfeel. Tannins are plentiful but finely polished, giving structure without hardness. The 2021 vintage brings concentration and ripeness, making the wine recognisable and impressive as a top Cabernet from a warm yet controlled climate.
Ningxia terroir at the foot of the Helan Mountains
Longyu Estate sits at around 1,100 metres in Ningxia, where desert conditions meet cool nights and small Cabernet berries. The combination of altitude, drainage and mineral tension creates a style distinct from Bordeaux or Napa. Slow ripening adds depth, while the nightly temperature drop preserves freshness and purity. This balance explains the wine’s dark fruit, spiced depth and firm outline: the region gives power, the climate gives focus.
Longyu Estate as a modern Chinese flagship
Longyu Estate is part of the Changyu Moser XV family and stands as one of the leading names in Chinese fine wine. Long 12 is the estate’s icon wine, produced in limited quantities and widely recognised in China as a prestige bottling. The intention is clear: Longyu aims to show that Chinese wine can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s most respected producers, and Long 12 is the bottle chosen to carry that message.
Lenz M. Moser and the Ningxia team
The wine is created under the guidance of Austrian winemaker Lenz M. Moser, who works closely with the local team led by Mr. Jiang. He spends the entire harvest period at the estate and returns several times a year to follow vineyard work, fermentation and ageing. Grapes are selected from the best parcels, and each barrel is assessed individually before the final blend is assembled. The composition — 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Marselan — brings structure, depth and a subtle touch of spice and blossom‑like lift.
Production focused on concentration
Harvesting is done manually in small crates to ensure perfect fruit condition. Fermentation is temperature‑controlled to preserve purity while extracting tannin and structure without harshness. The wine then spends 24 months in 100% new French barriques with medium toast, adding layers of spice, chocolate, vanilla and toasted wood without overshadowing the fruit. Only the most harmonious barrels are selected for the final blend.
Cabernet with intensity and finesse
Long 12 allows Cabernet Sauvignon to be both powerful and elegant. The dense fruit and high alcohol create an opulent mouthfeel, yet the acidity keeps the wine lifted and prevents heaviness. Marselan adds a subtle, spice‑tinged lift that brings an extra dimension to both aroma and flavour. The long finish with sweet‑toned fruit, spice and toasted wood reinforces the sense of a wine designed as an icon rather than an everyday bottle.
Long 12 at the table
The wine works beautifully with beef, lamb and richly flavoured meat dishes, where its dark fruit and spiced structure can unfold. It suits autumn and winter particularly well, pairing naturally with braised cuts, slow‑roasted dishes, grilled lamb racks and plates with mushrooms or smoky elements. It also fits Asian dishes with soy, ginger and dark sauces, where its concentration and spiced sweetness find a natural counterpart.
Power, depth and price
Long 12 brings together terroir, ambition and a ripe vintage in a way that feels deliberate and clearly defined. The dark fruit, spiced depth, mineral tension and long oak ageing create a style that leaves a strong impression. At the same time, the luxury‑level price means it is not a bottle one returns to casually. Yet the wine’s character, strength and distinct personality make it memorable — an experience that stands out and stays with you.
