The Spanish wine region of Campo de Borja is located in Aragón in northeastern Spain. The landscape is shaped by the Moncayo mountain range and the mountain of the same name. At the foot of Moncayo, grapes are grown to produce wines packed with flavour, power, juiciness and intensity. Vineyards are planted at three different altitude levels, and Garnacha is by far the dominant grape variety. Around 5,000 hectares are planted with Garnacha, and the distinctive climate around Mount Moncayo gives the grapes remarkable intensity.
Campo de Borja is particularly known for its powerful, ripe and dark-fruited red wines. But Garnacha can express itself in many different ways, even within Campo de Borja, and the eight wines we have tasted range from relatively simple and juicy everyday styles to deep, concentrated top wines. There is even a white Garnacha among all the reds.
Two producers are responsible for all the wines on this list: Bodegas Morca and Bodegas Ainzón. Bodegas Morca was founded in 2014 and is part of the Gil family’s Spanish wine project. The winery focuses firmly on Garnacha and has 30 hectares of old vines, supplying the grapes for wines including Flor de Morca, Godina, Morca and the flagship Touran.
Bodegas Ainzón represents a different side of the region, with wines ranging from Crianza and Reserva to the Peña Zuela range. The producer is based in Ainzón and has made Garnacha a central part of its identity.
Together, the two producers provide an interesting picture of just how broad the spectrum of Campo de Borja can be.

1. Bodegas Morca Touran 2021
Spain, Campo de Borja
Red wine, Garnacha
Price category: Ultra Premium
95 Pts. – Excellent
3 Stars – Slightly overpriced
Touran is Campo de Borja with the volume turned right up: dark, dense and concentrated Garnacha with dark berries, liquorice and dark chocolate. This is a serious, structured wine with plenty of power, but also enough freshness to keep its substantial weight in balance.

2. Bodegas Morca Godina 2023
Spain, Campo de Borja
Red wine, Garnacha
Price category: High Price
94 Pts. – Delicious
5 Stars – Impressive quality for the price
Godina delivers plenty of dark fruit, richness, warmth and spice without becoming heavy. It is less complex than Touran but considerably easier to approach, and the combination of high quality and a much lower price makes it a very attractive buy.

3. Bodegas Ainzon Peña Zuela Vendimia Seleccionada Garnacha 2023
Spain, Campo de Borja
Red wine, Garnacha
Price category: Moderate Price
94 Pts. – Delicious
5 Stars – Impressive quality for the price
Peña Zuela Vendimia Seleccionada shows just how high the quality can climb without the price following it into expensive territory. With 94 points and 5 stars, this Garnacha places itself firmly among the highlights of this Campo de Borja tasting.

4. Bodegas Morca Flor de Morca 2024
Spain, Campo de Borja
Red wine, Garnacha
Price category: Low Price
92 Pts. – Good
5 Stars – Impressive quality for the price
Warm, full-bodied and fruity Garnacha with dark berries, spice, liquorice and soft tannins. Six months in French oak add cocoa and extra spice, but the wine retains its youthful freshness and remains above all juicy, easy-drinking and ideal for the barbecue.

5. Bodegas Morca Morca 2022
Spain, Campo de Borja
Red wine, Garnacha
Price category: High Price
91 Pts. – Reasonable
3 Stars – Slightly overpriced
Morca 2022 has a dark and full-bodied style, with liquorice, spice and herbs adding to its deep and powerful character. Aged in a combination of steel tanks and oak, it combines dense fruit, fine freshness and a distinct oak influence without taking things too far. There is good depth to the ripe, dark-fruited Garnacha, resulting in an intense and concentrated wine with plenty of power for the richer dishes of autumn and winter.

6. Bodegas Ainzon Peña Zuela Vendimia Seleccionada Garnacha Blanca 2025
Spain, Campo de Borja
White wine, Garnacha Blanca
Price category: Low Price
91 Pts. – Fine
4 Stars – Good buy
Red wines usually steal the limelight in Campo de Borja. But this Peña Zuela Garnacha Blanca 2025 shows that the region can also produce charming and appealing white wines. The Garnacha Blanca offers a fresh and aromatic style in which citrus and floral notes quickly catch the attention. Ageing in steel tanks preserves the freshness and acidity, making it a natural match for fish, tapas and salads. Despite the warm 2025 vintage, this is a fine white wine where spice and aromatic character complement the freshness in a natural and charming way.

7. Bodegas Ainzon Viña Ainzon Reserva 2019
Spain, Campo de Borja
Red wine, Garnacha
Price category: Low Price
89 Pts. – Fair
4 Stars – Worth the money
Richness and dark fruit are the defining features of Viña Ainzon Reserva 2019. With notes of liquorice, spice and herbs, this is a classic Campo de Borja style with a certain depth, although it lacks the final degree of polish needed to reach the highest level. At this price level, that is fair enough. It tastes perfectly fine, but it is not necessarily a wine you will still remember a week later.

8. Bodegas Ainzon Viña Ainzon Crianza 2022
Spain, Campo de Borja
Red wine, Garnacha
Price category: Low Price
87 Pts. – Just misses the mark
4 Stars – Worth the money
This Crianza from Bodegas Ainzon sits at the lower end of the price scale. Its dark and spicy character brings depth and dark flavours to a dense, warm style. It is not a wine that leaves a major impression, but sometimes that is perfectly fine. A straightforward everyday red that tastes decent enough, although it lacks the final finesse and polish needed to become truly convincing.
