-> Champagne Mouzon-Leroux & Fils
Here we have Mouzon-Leroux & Fils’ pure Chardonnay Champagne. The magic of the house style lies in the combination of elegant, fresh and dry finesse on one side and the sublime rounding influence of Pinot Noir with its fresh red-fruit notes on the other. Take Pinot Noir out of the equation and the acidity and crisp, dry character have to carry the weight on their own, and they actually do it rather well. Just not quite well enough to reach the same level as the other three Champagnes from Mouzon-Leroux & Fils tasted on this occasion. You could argue that this is a purer and more precise style because Chardonnay stands alone, and I fully appreciate that. It is a genuinely beautiful Blanc de Blancs. But having fallen so completely for the Pinot Noir expression that Mouzon-Leroux & Fils manages to conjure up, I cannot deny missing that very particular balance I find in the other Champagnes from the house.
