This Grand Cru Champagne comes from the south-eastern slopes of Montagne de Reims. We are in Verzy, where Mouzon-Leroux & Fils is based and has been for several generations. L’Atavique Tradition is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with an elegant, composed and taut character. The cool expression and chalk-rich vineyards provide delicious freshness, while the red-fruited character of Pinot Noir rounds out the flavours and adds depth to the fruit. It is dry, precise and balanced, yet remains wonderfully approachable and accessible.
Rarely do elegance and intensity work together quite as well as they do here, particularly when the price category is taken into consideration. There is enough citrus freshness to serve it with fish and seafood, while the rounded fruit also makes it a delicious palate-cleansing aperitif or an after-dinner pleasure.
